Use Skillful Communication for Positive Impressions

Before entering a meeting or networking event, remind yourself to be natural and authentic.

Remember when introducing yourself, do so with a warm facial expression and a moderately firm handshake.

When conversing, monitor your listening. If you feel distracted, redirect your attention to the discussion and monitor yourself throughout the interaction. Others quickly know when someone is distracted and not engaged.

When speaking with an individual, occasionally use the other person's name.

Make insightful comments and ask specific questions to add to the discussion.

When others join the group, make sure they feel a part of the discussion by letting them know what the conversation is about. Make eye contact with them to recognize their presence.
